Mold Removal Service

Mold Removal and Remediation

Mold will grow in places with a lot of moisture, if you recently had a leak in your roof, windows, or pipes, or had a bathroom or kitchen flood.  Mold will start growing within 24 hours of a water damage event.

Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood products.  Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.  To control mold you must completely remove moisture from the affected area.

What happens during a mold inspection?

During our inspection our highly trained team members look for signs of mold.  Five Star Restoration team members can detect elevated notes of mildew or must.  We attempt to locate the source that is feeding water to the mold.

We also will ask if any health issues have shown up in anyone who occupies the home.  If high concentrations of mold are detected we may suggest having a mold examination done at the property.

How Long Does Mold Removal Take?

A mold remediation usually takes one day. During a mold remediation affected areas are cleaned and sanitized.  At times certain building materials are removed from the house like drywall, carpet pad, and baseboard to name a few.

Every remediation has a dry out that comes afterwards. It is critical to remove the moisture from the affected area so that the mold will not return to your home. That dry out usually takes 3 to 4 days including the day the remediation starts.

How does insurance get handled for mold remediation?

If you have mold coverage built into your homeowner’s insurance policy then Five Star Restoration Insurance experts will assist in the claim filing process and actively work with the assigned adjuster. Our goal is to do our best to help you get your loss covered.

What is the cost for mold removal?

To have Five Star Restoration come to your home or business, the initial diagnostic is FREE.   If you do not have mold insurance coverage then we can work up an estimated cost for your mold remediation.

Controlling Mold

Moisture control is the key to mold control.  Molds need both food and water to survive.  Since molds can digest most things, water is the factor that limits mold growth.

Molds will often grow in damp or wet areas indoors.  Common sites for indoor mold growth include bathroom tile, basement walls, areas around windows where moisture condenses, and near leaky water pipes or sinks.

Common sources or causes of water or moisture problems include roof leaks, deferred maintenance, condensation associated with high humidity or cold spots in the building, localized flooding due to plumbing failures or heavy rains, slow leaks in plumbing fixtures, and malfunction or poor design of humidification systems.
